Annual Out of Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention

Last weekend, many Staker Parson Companies employees and their families participated in the 2024 Out of Darkness Walk for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) at the Veterans Memorial Park in West Jordan, Utah.

The Out of Darkness Walk is a fundraising opportunity investing in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support in the fight for suicide prevention. Family members and advocates of suicide prevention gather and walk together in memory of those who have lost their lives.

This year’s walk had almost four thousand people in attendance, successfully raising $200,000 for AFSP’s initiative.

CRH has been a strong advocate for our community, committed to promoting mental health and driving change within the construction business. We are proud to continue our involvement with organizations such as the AFSP to raise awareness and break the stigma around asking for help and providing essential support to those in need through our employee assistance and EMERGE resource programs.

The Center of Disease Control (CDC) lists suicide as one of the leading causes of death worldwide with the construction industry’s suicide rate being four times higher than the general population. In 2023, it was estimated that there were 123 suicides daily in the general US population with the almost 50 deaths per 100,000 construction workers.
