Our Projects

Nielson Construction is making significant contributions to the development of the new Utahraptor State Park, a stunning destination 13 miles north of Moab. Nestled near the iconic Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Utahraptor State Park is recognized not only for its striking red rock formations but more notably for the prehistoric remains hidden beneath its surface. The park will feature 82 paved campsites, two Highway Patrol living facilities, manager and staff housing, an entrance station building, and a network of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and ATV/OHV use.

The Mountain View Corridor project includes the construction of four new corridor miles and five miles of multi-use trails. Six vehicle bridges, five pedestrian bridges, eight box-structure bridges, and a multi-plate arch will serve the corridor. It is designed to not only enhance traffic flow but also provide safe pedestrian pathways and cycling trails.

Western Rock Products recently completed the I-15, SR 20 to South Beaver, UT project! Work activities included placing over 71,000 tons of SMA asphalt on over 55 miles of roadway surface. This included resurfacing a northbound and southbound climbing lane. This project began in the Spring of 2023 and was completed in October 2023.

Hales Sand and Gravel recently completed a reconstruction project on the Doctor Creek Campground in Fish Lake, UT. This project is an encampment located beside the beautiful Fish Lake and stands at an elevation of close to 9,000 feet. Work activities both began and were completed in September. 

The West Davis Corridor is a new 16-mile, 4-lane divided highway in Western Davis County between the I-15 and Legacy Parkway junction at Glovers Lane in Farmington. It provides additional transportation options, reduce traffic impacts, and provide connectivity throughout the region. This highway also includes freeway-style interchanges, over 10 miles of new trails and connections, and a future extension of S.R. 193 in West Point.

Burdick Materials was awarded the 2024 NAPA Quality in Construction and has been recognized as having the smoothest paving rating since the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration began keeping record of how smooth the highways are. The reconstruction of Harpers Road has reduced the footprint of the roadway which has minimized the environmental impacts, lowered maintenance costs, and preserved the surrounding natural habitat of the Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado.

Staker Parson recently completed a rehabilitation project on I-80, from milepost 50 to 60, in Grantsville, UT. This project required 43 days for crews to remove the existing asphalt and place 47,000 tons of new SMA on the roadway surface. New lane striping and rumble strips were incorporated to enhance safety for travelers. Parking lot improvements were also made to two truck rest stops.

Hales Sand and Gravel recently completed work on an exciting project at the Lincoln County airport in Panaca City, Lincoln County, Nevada. Work activities for this project primarily included overlaying the Panaca Airport with 2 inches of FAA ½” asphalt. Hales Sand & Gravel bid on the project earlier this year to construct the runway using asphalt from Western Rocks’ Cedar City Hot Plant. Work on this project began near the end of August and, despite unique challenges faced, was successfully completed in September.

The Hales Sand and Gravel team has been working expeditiously on an exciting project on the North 500 East Road in Richfield, Utah. This holistic reconstruction project spans three city blocks and focuses primarily on renovating the deteriorating state of the existing roadway and utilities.

In May, the Jack B Parson Ready Mix Concrete team began an exciting new project on Stewart Stadium at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. This phase of the four-year project focuses on revamping the seating on the east side of the stadium by replacing and upgrading the east side bleachers to address sinking ground problems in the area and add stability to the structure for earthquake prevention. Jack B Parson provided 5,000 cubic yards of fiber-reinforced concrete for the project.

Nielson Construction & Materials completed a 32.5-mile-long improvement project on the scenic SR-24, the route designated as a National Scenic Byway and the primary access to Capitol Reef National Park. All improvements focused on increasing the safety score of the roadway. These improvements included widening and paving shoulders, extending drainage culverts, and flattening steep slopes to ensure safer passage.

Staker Parson Materials & Construction completed a 40-mile-long preservation project on US-6 earlier this year. Improvements included 20 miles of highway rotomilling, placing HMA overlay and chip seal, and providing new pavement markings.

Burdick Materials recently completed the Taylor Mountain project, located in northeastern Utah, approximately 6 miles north of Vernal. This 7-mile rural corridor is heavily traveled and provides connectivity and access to local businesses, private residents, and the Ashley National Forest. Due to its condition, updates and improvements were required to extend the life of the roadway.

On September 21, 20222, Jack B. Parson performed night work, pouring 870 cubic yards of concrete and establishing the floor of the new Vineyard City 6MG Water Tank project. Crews were able to average 120 cubic yards per hour with two pumps.

Western Rock Products is working on the Bitter Springs to Fredonia Highway (US 89A) Project located in Coconino County in North-Central Arizona. Valued at $8.1M, this 15-mile highway rehabilitation project will provide safer mobility for those traveling through the area by incorporating an intermittent climbing lane and updating the roadway surface.

Idaho Materials & Construction completed the SH-44, INT SH-16 to Linder Road project in Treasure Valley, Idaho. Improvements to the 2.3-mile section of the highway were needed as this area is heavily traveled, seeing up to 23,000 cars daily, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. The existing roadway could only accommodate one travel lane in each direction, causing heavy congestion. This project minimized congestion by incorporating two travel lanes in each direction, providing better mobility for those traveling through the area. 

Earlier this year, Reynolds Excavation, Demolition, and Utilities completed work on the new Utah State Correctional Facility. Located in a remote wetland area west of Salt Lake City, this new 1.25 million square foot facility is the largest detention complex in Utah, sitting on nearly 200 acres of land. It is designed to house up to 3,600 inmates of all four classifications ranging from maximum security to the general population, with separate facilities for men and women.

Nielson Construction & Materials crews have been working hard constructing the new elementary school in Ferron Utah. The Ferron Elementary School building consists of 10 standard classrooms, 2 kindergarten classrooms, 1 preschool classroom, a gymnasium, a media center, and a kitchen with a lunchroom. The exterior will include landscaping, grass playfields, and three separate fenced playground areas.

Hales Sand & Gravel recently completed the SR-24; Sand Ledge to Koosharem Turnoff Project in Central Utah. This 11-mile project, located in the beautiful Koosharem Valley and adjacent to Koosharem Reservoir, required updating the shoulders and widening the roadway to improve and provide safer mobility for travelers.

Western Rock Products is currently working on the S.R. 14; S.R. 148 to Mammoth Creek Road & MP 36.8 to U.S. 89 project. Located in both Iron and Kane counties, this project began in early June and will improve the overall smoothness and longevity of the roadway. Improvements include removing and replacing the existing asphalt and incorporating new guard rails, culverts, signs, delineators, and striping.

The project is located on US-91 in the north end of Cache Valley, from Smithfield, Utah, to the Idaho border, approximately 10.64 miles. Crews are performing lane leveling and providing a paved turnout for snowplows to safety turnaround at the Idaho border.

The Gunnison City Streets project began in early June and is anticipated to complete in late August. Located in beautiful Gunnison, Utah, this project consists of updating and improving multiple roads throughout the city.

The Old Highway 91 Pavement Rehabilitation Project was located in Hurricane City’s high-profile industrial park, an area that serves national brands such as Walmart Distribution, FedEx Ground, and Sinclair Oil. Western Rock Products provided services to improve the 2.4-mile corridor, which included a full-depth reclamation (FDR), mill & overlay, and roadway widening.

This project is a 1 million square foot pad for the 111 Commerce building. Crews worked to place material and install water line, storm drain, and sewer line.

The SR-39 project was on SR-39 on the east side of Monte Cristo to Woodruff in Northern Utah.

Western Rock Products used fines material and blending techniques to meet the requirements of the BMX track owner to pave the steep banking turns with HMA. The company utilized 280 tons of Hot Mix Asphalt and around 500 tons of fines materials to accomplish this project.

Work of adding additional westbound and eastbound lanes between MP 39.22 and 40.22, US 20/26, Chinden Blvd, Locust Grove to Eagle Road, traffic signal modifications at Locust Grove and Eagle Rd, as well as pedestrian and irrigation improvements through this portion of the corridor.

Miscellaneous site work, including importing material for new building pad, underground piping that included a pump station, and approximately five hundred feet of sewer force main piping, various concrete curb & gutter areas, sidewalk, pedestrian ramps, asphalt paving for the main truck yard, and landscape repair.

1.5 mile widening of US 20/26 doubling the highway’s capacity from roughly Linder to just east of Meridian Road and significant upgrades to adjacent ACHD roadways and the addition of a new collector road running through the middle of the new Orchard Park complex.

The I-84, Franklin Blvd. to Franklin Road project highlights efficient business practices and construction methods as part of a project that not just meets the Idaho Transportation Department’s (ITD) mission of safety, efficiency, mobility, and economic opportunity but exceeds it.

Large quantities of pipe were installed along with mass grading and paving on steep mountain terrain. Several pressure-reducing vaults were installed along with a large pump station.

RC Willey is the largest furniture outlet store in the Western United States. Jack B. Parson Ready Mix Concrete and Staker Parson Materials & Construction were happy to work with this group on this awesome project.

Jordanelle Parkway is a $17.8 million dollar 3.75-mile-long road winding along the northwesterly side of Jordanelle reservoir from US-40 to SR-248.

Demolition of the existing City Creek pipe and Installation of 1500 LF of 84” RCP in the same location for the Airport TRAX line.

The project required the rerouting of existing utilities and installed new sewer, storm drain, and water. Reynolds excavated the structural package. Staker Parson paved the temporary road and patching existing areas.

The Peerless Port was a project built in Carbon County along both east and west-bound shoulders of Highway 6. This project is a new Port of Entry that will replace the old one located 5 miles north in the mouth of Price Canyon. The project was designed to increase safety for the traveling public on Highway 6.

An addition to Roy Jr. High school all of the wall were done in Insulated concrete form blocks. This was the first Davis County School that has been built using the ICF block technology.

This project is a 900,000 square foot production facility, used to produce paper products such as paper towels and toilet paper along with producing laundry soap and a variety of other products.

The team reconstructed South Main Street and West Center Street. The reconstruction included rotomilling old asphalt, removing the old culvert, and adding a new storm retention system. It also included grading, draining, and surface improvement.

The team rebuilt and improved the pavement surface along a seven-mile section of I-15 between the Bridge over the Sevier River and the Juab/Millard County Line. Work included converting the existing concrete roadway to an asphalt surface, resulting in a smoother ride.

The project included reconstructing a 75’ x 5693’ asphalt runway, safety area grading, drainage improvements, and related work. The team added a new aggregate base and subbase course and soft spot repair, and 4” of new asphalt.

Western Rock Products paved this BMX track’s banking turns with Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA). 

This project consisted of the removal and replacement of approximately 822,200 square feet of existing asphalt pavement, three inches thick.

On this project, the Western Rock Product team added a third lane to the northbound lanes from MP 37 to 44.

This project started at MP 357 to MP 363 and included a ½ mile of road reconstruction and widening for safety improvement, lane leveling, and six miles of 2” milling and overlaid with 2” of ½” SMA.  

Burdick Materials added the center turn lane to improve safety through the town of Gusher

Burdick Materials was a subcontractor on this project for all of the civil earthwork, piping from 3” to 24” pipe in size, structural excavation, up to 26 feet deep, and HMA paving.

Crews placed just over 20,000 tons of asphalt and just under 35,000 LF of pipe. The airport also received a full electrical and lighting upgrade.

Working within a 9-hour nightly mill and overlay shift, our traffic control, trucking, asphalt plant, and construction crews were successfully able to rotomill 4″ of existing asphalt and pave back 2.5″ of hot mix asphalt (HMA). Upon completing the HMA phase of 28,134 tons, we paved back 18,553 tons of Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) on 17 lane miles, with only two bumps to grind.

Widening of this stretch of road required environmental, wildlife, and historical artifact consideration.

This project was the second pond Burdick Materials has built for EP Energy that is 20 acres in size designed to hold 1.2 million oil barrels of water which equal 50.4 million gallons of fresh water.

The Lifetime Warehouse project completed by Staker Parson Materials & Construction consists of a new building, asphalt paving, concrete curb and gutter, as well as concrete paving.
