Project Description:

This extensive corridor project includes the construction of four new corridor miles and five miles of multi-use trails. It is designed to not only enhance traffic flow but also provide safe pedestrian pathways and cycling trails. Key features of the project include:

  • Bridges and Intersections: Six vehicle bridges, five pedestrian bridges, eight box-structure bridges, and a multi-plate arch will serve the corridor. JNC is additionally upgrading the existing 2100 N and Redwood intersection to a modern interchange, adding a four-legged intersection at Porter Rockwell Blvd. In connection with Staker Parson, Jack B. Parson Ready Mix Concrete has supplied the majority of ready mix concrete for the project with over 5,000 cubic yards placed in 2024.
  • Utilities and Excavation: The team will install 33,000 linear feet of utilities and relocate 2.6 million cubic yards of dirt to shape the terrain to support the new infrastructure. As an extension of Staker Parson, Reynolds Excavation, Demolition & Utilities crews addressed underground pipe installation as well as dirt spread.

Sustainability Efforts:

Sustainability is woven into every phase of this project. The design-build team prioritizes sourcing materials from local manufacturers to support the regional economy and reduce transportation-related emissions. Additionally, an innovative approach is employed to reusing on-site materials whenever possible. For instance, boulders found on-site are being repurposed to create rip rap for drainage, minimizing the need for new raw materials. This eco-conscious approach aligns with UDOT’s commitment to sustainable development, making a positive impact on the community and environment.

Key Collaborations and Highlights:

Collaboration between UDOT and the JNC team has been pivotal to the project’s success. Andrew Jordan, UDOT’s Project Manager, remarked, “The cooperation and partnering efforts between the Jordan Narrows Constructors team (Ames and Staker Parson Joint Venture) and the UDOT team have made this project a success and a joy to be part of.” This spirit of teamwork is reflected in the efficient coordination across multiple contractors and project stakeholders, ensuring high standards in every phase of development.

For Staker Parson’s Roadway Engineer, Ryan Eastin, the project has been both a personal and professional highlight. In this role, Eastin has had the unique opportunity to utilize both his engineering background and past military experience to collaborate with the Camp Williams Army National Guard and the Department of Defense’s Range Control Team. Reflecting on his experience, Eastin shared, “I appreciate working for a company that encourages professional growth, allowing me to explore new roles and responsibilities without becoming stagnant. …I am fortunate to work alongside a team of exceptionally professional and knowledgeable coworkers.  Their guidance and expertise have made this an invaluable learning experience, giving me confidence that I’m on the right path with such strong mentors and leaders in the industry.”

Looking Ahead:

With the notice of award received on November 16, 2023, the team is on track to meet their projected completion goal in 2026. This project is an important milestone in Utah’s infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity and paving the way for future growth in the region.
