Project Description:
Nielson Construction is making significant contributions to the development of the new Utahraptor State Park, a stunning destination 13 miles north of Moab. Nestled near the iconic Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Utahraptor State Park is recognized not only for its striking red rock formations but more notably for the prehistoric remains hidden beneath its surface.
The project began in April 2023, saw a partial park opening in December 2024, and has a projected completion for spring of 2025. Primitive camp sites are currently accessible via the new state park entrance from Highway 191. The park will feature 82 paved campsites, two Highway Patrol living facilities, manager and staff housing, an entrance station building, and a network of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and ATV/OHV use.
Despite challenges including design changes and subcontractor scheduling, Nielson Construction has ensured the project meets high standards. “Nielson has done a good job adapting to all the design changes and making sure the project was done correctly,” said Jon Pendray, Hogan Superintendent.
The park is designed with sustainability in mind, with full-time staff living on-site to maintain its facilities. More than just a construction project, Utahraptor State Park will become a place of natural beauty and adventure, offering breathtaking landscapes, trails, and camping opportunities for generations to come.
