Supporting Safer Roads Statewide Through Salt Distribution

For more than 20 years, Staker Parson and Hales Sand & Gravel have played a vital role in promoting safer winter travel across Utah through the delivery of de-icing salt.

Each snow season, our teams work daily to load and transport salt from the Redmond mine to a variety of customers, including UDOT sheds and numerous city and county municipalities throughout the state.

Winter road safety is a coordinated effort—and we’re proud to be a key part of it. The salt we deliver helps prevent ice formation and improves traction, reducing the risk of accidents and keeping roadways passable during snowstorms. While demand fluctuates depending on weather conditions, we’ve delivered as much as 80,000 tons of salt in a single season. In lighter snow years, that number may drop to around 32,000 tons.

Each snow season brings a renewed commitment to timely response and reliable service. As snowfall increases, so does the effort to ensure roads remain safe and accessible for drivers across the state. From early mornings to late nights, crews work diligently to keep salt moving where it is needed most, supporting cities, counties, and transportation teams in their mission to protect the traveling public.

Now that we’ve officially entered the spring/summer season of 2025, our drivers can take a break from trips to the Redmond salt mine. We’ll be geared up and ready come next winter season!
