OGDEN, Utah’s Jack B. Parson Companies (JBP) retained the top spot for the ninth year at the annual northern Utah Ready Mix Truck Roadeo sponsored by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Utah. The competition was held Sept. 22 at H & E Equipment Company in Salt Lake City. Daren Rawson of JBP’s Ogden plant achieved the highest score during the competition for the second consecutive year. As winner of the competition, Rawson was presented with a cash prize and plaque.
Congratulations to this year’s winners and participants,” says Bob Rowberry, JBP president. This year, JBP celebrates its 60th anniversary. Our employees represent the mission we’ve strived to achieve for those 60 years to be The Preferred Source. Our employees continually demonstrate their determination to strive for excellence in their driving skills and safety.
JBP selected three drivers to participate in the competition based on their safety record, professionalism and years of service. Rawson has been a JBP employee for 22 years and has an excellent safety record. Two other JBP drivers, both with decades of safe driving experience, participated in the event.
Three different tests were administered during the Roadeo, including a written test, a pre-trip inspection conducted by the Utah Highway Patrol and a driving test that measured the driver skill in maneuvering, backing, turning and stopping the mixer. Concrete placement and chute handling skills were also tested during the event.
In 2002, the AGC of Southern Utah held its first Roadeo where JBP driver Bob Lowery won first place. In 2003, the annual competition was initiated in Northern Utah. JBP drivers have won the event 9 of 10 years.
